Like mother , like daughter :
Mother-daughter real estate duos emphasize that a home is more than just a house
Home and family are words that have always just seemed to go hand in hand . And that has been doubly true for four of the Lake Cumberland area ' s most successful home sellers , two motherdaughter real estate teams who care what the concept of home means to their customers and who all agree that a house isn ' t just a house – it ' s a home .

Sherri Frye of Godby Realty and Auction has been in the homefinding business for almost a quarter of a century now , and still gets great satisfaction out of helping people find their new homes .
" I take pride in finding a perfect fit and seeing a client ' s face as I ' m helping them establish roots in a community ," she said .
Sherri ' s daughter , Monica Reed , is new to the real estate business , and recently joined her mother at Godby Realty and Auction .
Monica says it is a blessing to be helping families find their homes .
" To be a part of that is a humbling experience ," said Monica .
" And I am grateful for it , knowing they have placed their trust in my abilities to guide them through the home-buying process ."
Sheri said she first acquired her real estate license in 2001 , just weeks before the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States , and a recession hit the U . S . economy not long after .
Sherri has been a very successful entrepreneur in the real estate business , and said there have also been ups and downs .
She has seen times when real estate sales flurry , " when you couldn ' t work enough hours in the day to meet the needs of all the clients or find a sufficient amount of homes to sell ."
But then " the bubble burst and I saw real estate at its lowest point ."
However , Sherri ' s tenacity and passion for helping people find their forever homes helped her and her clients through the storms .
She said real estate is " ever changing ," and " a seasoned realtor is flexible and able to bend with those changes ."
" My mother is an extremely determined realtor with many awards under her belt ," said Monica .
" I hope I am able to accomplish a portion of what she has ."
Monica obtained her real estate license in October of 2024 and mama couldn ' t be more proud .
Sherri said that her daughter becoming a Realtor has exhilarated and rejuvenated her .
She said that love between a mother and daughter is a form of love that can conquer any challenge .
Monica added that , though she and her mom already spend a good deal of time together , real estate has brought them even closer together and has given them a common goal to work toward for their clients .
Both ladies said that their own experiences being moms and homeowners have helped them have a true appreciation of the inestimable value of owning your own home .
Sherri has owned her home for 16 years , and said it is a " gratifying fulfillment ."
She added that home ownership " gives you a good feeling about yourself , a sense of freedom , security and privacy ."
Monica has fond memories of growing up in her childhood home , back when kids spent more time outside than inside , where she spent her summer days riding her bike with her friends and playing in the sprinkler .
" As a mother , I think those simpler times are what we look for when searching for a home to raise our children ."
Sherri said that a home is not just a word or a building , " it ' s a feeling ."
Customers go through many emotions when they purchase a home , everything from anticipation , uncertainty and fears , then finally to joy and a feeling of privilege to have achieved home ownership , she said .
Monica agreed that buying and selling a home is an emotional experience in its own right , and when a family ' s dream of owning a home becomes a reality , it can be very emotional .
The Golden Rule is an important guideline for personal and business relationships , Monica added .
" Being respectful , patient , and passionate are essential qualities that clients not only appreciate in a realtor , but actively seek out ," she said .
Monica has learned a lot from a mom who has been in the business for over two decades .
