Box Office: 0504 90204 ‘Gappy Being’ - an exhibition by Glenn fitzgerald ViSuAL ArtS Saturday 15 September to Saturday 27 October Time: 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Friday 2pm to 5pm Saturday Glenn Fitzgerald’s work is about a world between worlds or maybe outside of it or under it or in the very distant future or somewhere. Although this world or area is quite dreamy and hazy it can also be very clumpy with clumpy matter and a dingy atmosphere like a mechanic’s garage. Mostly it’s dreamy though. There are beings in it, all useless and some of ‘The Pure and Empty Form of Death’ (2017) - them can actually slot into the narrow gaps Marker, paper, found photographs - 30 x 21 cm between actual reality the way old cartridges or disks used to slot into computers in the not too distant past. GAPPY BEING. SLOTTY BEING Glenn lives and works in Dublin and is pursuing an MFA in painting at the National College of Art And Design. Note: This show opens on Culture Night – Friday 21st September at 7.30 p.m. A fantastic Woman/una mujer fantástica Wednesday 19 September fiLm Time: 8pm Price: €9/5 Dir. Sebastián Lelio, chile, 2017, 104 min Marina (Daniela Vega) is in a very happy relationship with an older man: Orlando (Francisco Reyes) a handsome, silver-haired, divorced guy in his 50’s. In the middle of the night, after an indulgent romantic meal, Orlando wakes up next to Marina, desperately ill. This event suddenly brings all the conformism and cruelty of society into vivid focus. It was there all along of course, as Marina is transgender, but it didn’t matter as her relationship with Orlando protected her. Now at a single stroke, Marina’s whole existence is thrown into doubt. “A Fantastic Woman is a brilliant film: a richly humane, moving study of someone keeping alive the memory and the fact of love.’’ – The Guardian Best Foreign Language Film – Academy Awards 2018 page 6
