Star, a free-spirited teenager on the brink of adulthood, leaves her troubled
home in the American Midwest and hits the road with a mag crew -itinerant labourers who peddle publications door-to-door for long hours
during the day and party hard at night, never certain where the job will lead
next. Led by hard-driving manager Krystal and her seductive enforcer Jake,
the crew becomes a surrogate family to Star, offering hope, love and the
freedom that comes from being on the road.

FILM
Time: 8pm
Price: €9/5
Dir Alexander Sokurov, Russia, 2015, 88 mins
Director Sokurov eschews the usual form for this type of film, which would
be documentary, in favour of a sort of historical drama. Switching back and
forth from the present era to WWII to the 18th century, the film attempts
to explain the history of The Louvre Gallery and Museum in Paris by
integrating several different phases in its existence; the acquisition of
much of the artwork by Napoleon in his conquests, transporting it out of
harms way before the Nazi occupation, and a contemporary recap of the
logistics and hazards involved in each phase.

WORKSHOP
Time: 7-10pm
Price: €25
Niamh Boyce is currently working on her second novel.
Her first ‘The Herbalist’ (Penguin Ireland) won
Newcomer of the Year at the Irish Book Awards 2013,
and was long listed for the IMPAC Award. 'The Herbalist'
details the arrival of an enigmatic figure in small-town
Ireland in the 1930's and the ramifications of his
dealings with the women in that town.
This practical workshop will look at the utilisation of local stories as
subject matter and how they can be interpreted and developed to tell
universal truths. Niamh will also discuss the process of editing specifically in relation to working on her second novel.
