Skillet has been on the rise recently since their huge hit “Monster” topped many charts in the music world. Now Skillet has released a new album following “Awake” titled “Rise,” which released June 25, 2013. It is the first album by Skillet to feature new guitarist Seth Morrison. The first single off of the album “Sick of It” was released on SoundCloud on April 8, 2013. Three more subsequent sequels have been released since then.
Let’s cut right to the chase, shall we? This album starts off with the title track “Rise,” an excellent track. The band continues on this album to wield the use of string instruments such as violins and cellos. Also, Jen Ledger’s background vocals are noted in this album, even having a song where she sings prominently. After Rise, the standout single “Sick of It” plays. This track supplements well to Skillet’s album and leads the album off to a great start.
To me, the track that stood out the most to me was “Circus for a Psycho.” The song starts out with a kicking riff sort of like “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC, comprised of Hammer-ons and Pull-offs to create a killer riff. All in all through this whole album, the lyrics gives off the positive Christian message. Not every song is the same as in the cliché Christian song, but different meaning are scattered throughout every track.
I was however disappointed, because after around the seventh track, the album diminishes. Not in quality, it just gets boring to listen to. Every track starts sounding similar in their own qualities, and many songs coincide with other song with how they sound. All in all, I recommend this album to any Christian looking for a band, but also who’s into Metal music.
