● What do you hope for the future of The Cohabit?

Eventually I’d like to finish the story. Obviously, the very first thing I tell the audience is that Abby and my character break up. I want to deliver on that promise. There’s also more to the documentary that I want to tell. Cohabitation’s rise over the decades is much more fascinating than one episode can capture. This first episode was an overview, with some harder-hitting stuff as well. The next episodes will really get into it. Stories like how state officials would do “midnight raids” to black women on welfare when they suspected they had a live-in boyfriend, or how it was women’s rights that eventually launched cohabitation into the national spotlight, specifically involving a very hotly debated court case where eventually the woman involved had to change her name. So, it’s storyboarded as a 6 episode mini-series but I’ve also made an alternative storyboard as a trilogy just in case. I sort of see it like Star Wars, which when the demand was there, George Lucas was able to continue and finish his story. So far, we’re waiting on that demand and specifically the investment that would come with that. The pilot was completely self-funded and we can’t afford to continue without serious investment and distribution deals. So for now, The Cohabit remains in pilot phase while we focus on other projects, though we’re still looking for that investment.

● What can listeners do to help get The Cohabit get to its next stage?

Listen and share it. That’s so important. And I don’t just mean sharing it on social media, which they should absolutely do, but take the time to personally invite someone to listen to it over an email, text, or in person, and then do it again. And of course if you know anyone with piles of cash looking to invest in something cool, send them our way!
