The Institute will focus on mission-driven solutions-focused research , innovation and teaching activities that deliver concrete actions that contribute to solving the plastics crisis . Its activities will be organised around three highimpact priority areas : evaluating change across the plastics life cycle ; accelerating the transition to a sustainable plastics economy ; and innovating actionable solutions .
Initial core research areas will be plastics policy , microplastics , enzymes and arts-based research . These will be supplemented by activities across pollution , health , psychology , materials , finance , food , packaging , fashion , environmental justice , circular economy , and climate change .
Across the University , we have an excellent global network of collaborators . For example , we are closely connected to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation , Break Free From Plastic , the Flotilla Foundation , UN Environment Programme , World Economic Forum , World Bank , and have strong research relationships with many universities worldwide , including in Africa and Asia . The Global Institute for Sustainable Plastics will accelerate the growth and power of these and new global partnerships , bringing together the expertise and resources to solve the plastic pollution crisis once and for all .
Moving forward through collaboration
In this magazine ’ s closing feature , you can read more about some of our current priorities and projects . You ’ ll learn how ventures such as the Centre for Enzyme Innovation and the Global Plastics Policy Centre , whose genesis is detailed in the archival material , are taking bold new steps forward in terms of research , and reaching out to build international links .
Knowledge sharing and partnership working will be key to our success in supporting the transition to a circular plastics economy . I hope the various quotes and testimonials you ’ ll read from our valued partners will speak to the collaborative spirit that infuses Revolution Plastics . I hope , too , that you will be inspired to stay in touch with us and explore the difference you can help us make . Together , we will turn this world around .
