M. Saleem Metla was born in Punjab in a humbl and agricultural family in Bhurewala. Some of his relatives are still situated there. He is a famous and reputed name in this area as he owns considerable land in Bhurewala. He studied in Sadiq Public School and was selected by Royal Air Force College in 1955. He was posted in Risalpur Academy in 1959 and passed out in 1961 and started a bright career in Air Force.
He was promoted to Flight Lt. in 1965 and awarded the letter from commanding in chief. His academic qualification is B.Sc from Kharachi University in 1978. He did his MBA from USA in 1984. He was posted in many countries e.g. Iran, Syria, Germany and USA. He had left air force in 1988 and started his own business. He has done well for himself in business including different companies abroad.
His son studied in Aitchison until 5th grade and studied in LAS. He did electrical engineering from USA and MBA from Wharton in 2004. He is working with a multi-national in Dubai. His daughter studied in Smith, Massachusetts and graduated in 1999. She is a banker in New York.
His wife is Dr. Najma Metla, daughter of an army officer. She did her Masters from Punjab University in English and HR and Ph.D. from USA in English. She is a former Air Force officer. She was the Principal of Garrison College and currently she is a Principal of Centre of Excellence institute.
M. Metla was posted in three separate wars of 1969, 71 and 73. The war of 1973 was the legendary Arab Israel War where M. Metla shot down an Israeli Mirage for which he received the Tamgha-e-Basaalat.
In 1970, he was promoted as a group Capt. by Mr. M. Anwar Sharif who later on became the Commander in Chief of Pak Air Force whom he’s still a personal friend of Mr. Salim Metla. He is also been mentioned in the Commander Chief’s book Cutting of Edge PAF. In 1971, he was promoted to squadron leader and been married same year. After the war, he became an instructor in Syrian air force.
He has 2 letters of commendation from Chief of Air Staff in 1965 after the war. He commanded the squadron in 1978. He has received 100 canals of land from Pakistan Air Force in 1976. In 1979, he went to Germany with German air force. In 1981, he was posted to America to look after an air force project with Hughes Air Craft Company.
As a philanthropist, he is doing best at his level and he has engaged his with him for this noble cause. He has been sponsoring the cricket tournaments in Bhurewala Stadium for over 15 years. He is Waqar Younis’ uncle and he brought him to Lahore from Bhurewala and was able to introduce a star to Pakistan Cricket Team.
Now, Shaheen Heritage is his mission to support the poor and deserving villagers of his area of Bhurewala District Vehari.
