MENTAL MAN-CAVES

Occasionally known as a 'manspace' or 'den', the man-cave is a sacred place for men to take a load off and de-stress.

In most cases, a man-cave is a place full of things the missus doesn't want in the house (like a lifesize cut-out of Bundy Bear).

Beneath the surface, the humble man-cave is more than just a place to hoard stuff. It becomes a place where you can escape the stresses of work and pesonal life.

It's an unspoken rule that once you enter a man-cave, you leave your problems at the door - but is this doing more harm than good?

The Movember Foundation states that 1 in 8 men will experience depression in their lifetime.

Additionally, the World Health Organization estimates that 510,000 men around the world will die as a result of suicide each year.

When you consider that generations of men have been told to 'harden up' and hide their issues, are these statistics suprising?

It's clear that men need more ways to manage stress and take a load off.

Here's where the idea of the mental man-cave comes in:

The purpose of a mental man-cave is the same as a physical one. It provides you with entertainment, a place to think and to relax.

It can be anywhere you want it to be - in a shed, on a tinny or a whole desert island: the only limit is your imagination.

It might feel weird at first, but it's a great tool for situations where you're feeling like a loose cannon (especially on the job).

Naturally, this method will have different effects on each person, but the pro's and con's stay pretty much the same:

PRO'S

. Instant access, 24/7

. Unlimited locations

. Everything's free

. Anything goes

. It's imaginary

CON'S

. Can't invite friends over

. Can't brag about it

. It's imaginary
