Cord
Blue, your eyes
Blue, your lips
Blue, your fingers
Blue, your toes
Blue
Blue
Blue.
The doctor cut the umbilical cord.
When I opened my eyes, you were gone,
your body thrown into some dark hollow.
Connect the cord,
come back to me.
With handfuls and armfuls of cord,
I draw you back
and reabsorb you
limb by limb –
muscle into muscle
bone into bone
blood into blood.
I wrap that cord tightly,
knot it around my heart –
a bond that will never be broken.
Invisible. Indivisible.
