LIBRARY LEARNING COMMONS The Smitha LLC ' s Vision is to be the center of literacy , learning , critical thinking , creativity , and community support .
The Smitha LLC ' s Mission is to be a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes and supports the intellectual , social , and personal development of all students . We strive to :
• Provide access to engaging , accurate , up-to-date , diverse , and inclusive print and digital resources
• Encourage curiosity and creativity
• Ensure that students and staff are effective and ethical users of ideas , information , and technology
• Support student achievement of curricular goals and objectives
Students are encouraged to use the Learning Commons , which is open daily from 8:00am – 4:10pm . From 8:00am - 8:45am , if the LLC sign is posted in morning study hall , students can come to the LLC to study or work on assignments . From 8:45am - 9:10am , students must check in to HR first and use the red laminated library pass to come back to the library . From 9:20am - 4:10pm , individual students can visit with the red laminated library pass or green group pass . Students must always have a pass and a clear purpose for visiting the Learning Commons ( such as research , reading , checking out a book , etc .).
Student Responsibility for Books : Students can enjoy unrestricted checkouts for a loan period of three weeks . E-books are also available . When checking out books from the Learning Commons , the student agrees to assume responsibility for the books . In cases of extreme negligence , when a book must be discarded ( such as water damage to a book ), the student will be responsible for the replacement cost of the book .
Students will receive overdue notices from the Learning Commons via homeroom and email . Failure to resolve lost and / or damaged book fines may result in students being removed from special end-of-year activities .
