Avanish published a paper based on a 2011 project that he did for Bureau of Meteorology in the AWA’s Water Journal, June edition. MARKETING UPDATE - WESTCONNEX OPPORTUNITIES
The WestConnex project will be the largest Urban Infrastructure project undertaken in Australia. The WestConnex project is 33km of integrated works that join the M4 and the M5 motorways which especially reduces the blocked artery of the Sydney transport system, Parramatta Road.
The WestConnex project is now going to have particular prominence as it is one of the priorities of the new Coalition government and work will be expedited as the new Federal Government has allocated $1.5 billion towards the early commencement of works.
This project offers a great opportunity for SMEC Central to accelerate the diversification of services strategy that has been identified as being critical for the long term success of the business. To date, our success has been around major transport projects and whilst WestConnex offers exceptional opportunities, so does the land on either side of the corridor. This will be the focus of development from a residential, commercial and industrial perspective. All of SMEC's core services can be adapted to service this new business but we will also make investments in new people with skills in planning and development, especially in brownfields developments. We will be able to capitalise on relationships with our current clients and the relationships with our clients in Western Sydney will be especially valuable. They will be businesses who will be looking at development opportunities along the route. There will also be substantial amounts of work servicing councils and utility providers.
A working group is being established within the leadership team to identify opportunities and partners so that SMEC can maximise its share of the work that will come out of this major project.
