Erskine Park Link Road
On 26 July 2013 NSW Premier and Minister for Western Sydney, Barry O’Farrell, and Minister for Roads and Ports, Duncan Gay MLC, officially opened the $48m Erskine Park Link Road.
The new 3.2km long 4-lane road links Old Wallgrove Road in the East and Lenore Lane in the West and will provide a vital link between the Western Sydney employment area and the M4 / M7 motorways.
The project features 3 intersections for future links to the employment areas, twin 80m long bridges over Ropes Creek, 5 detention basins, two culverts, extensive creek retraining works, 150,000m3 of excavated material and a shared user path along the full length.
SMEC undertook the Detailed Design in an Alliance with RMS in 2010 with construction commencing in October 2011. The design presented a number of complexities, not least reducing the span of the Ropes Creek Bridge from the 180m included in the concept design.
During construction SMEC provided design support to address issues related to the construction, particularly in relation to the redesign of the Endeavour Energy electrical diversions. Additionally, the Super-T girder attachment plates were redesigned to address production issues related to the epoxy mortar pads.
The project was completed on time and $7m under budget. Total fees for SMEC are around $4.4m. A large number of people from the Sydney Office were involved in the detailed design which required input from a number of different functional groups.
