• The water table is the level below which the ground is saturated
with water; as long as the water table was above the cave, any
hole which formed would have been submerged. Many of the
rock formations could not form until the water table dropped,
allowing air to fill the cave.
• Rock formations hanging from the ceiling are called stalactites,
while those rising from the ground are stalagmites. Remember
that the ones on the ceiling must hang on “tite”!
