Rifle Club
By: Siarah Willenberg
Litchfield Public School has a Rifle Club that takes place year round. They have practice in
the Winter months in the Old Gym. Practices are every Thursday at 6:30pm. In the fall they
have their Silhouette season. One of their meets is at Pressy Park. For this event they use .22
rifles. They shoot from behind a line aiming at different sizes of animal silhouettes starting
from smallest to biggest as well as from different distances. They are scored on accuracy during
this event. Recently, Parker Lefever was honored for shooting “5 Pigs in a Row”, a rare
achievement and placed 1st in Light Scope. Nathan
Wardyn placed 2nd in Heavy Iron. In the winter they
practice indoor during their Indoor Club Shooting
season while using Small Bore .22 rifles. This is
where they shoot with ea ch other, but do not com-
pete with other schools. Then Spring comes and
they participate in outdoor trap shooting with shot-
guns. This is also scored on accuracy, however the
target is a clay pigeon. The next event this year is
State Trap which is in Doniphan, NE May 3- 5.
Their goal for this year was to encourage safe han-
dling of firearms while gaining some experience
shooting, as well as encouraging hunting skills.
Good luck with the remainder of your season!■
