Litchfield FFA News and Update: Litchfield FFA has been busy this semester preparing for and partici- pating in competitions. In January students from Litchfield participated in the Non-Qualifying CDE competi- tion in Broken Bow. The freshmen participated in the Agriscience com- petition. Kayden Lucas, Ethan Sohrweid and Rebecca Mostek re- ceived blue ribbons. Tessa Shafer and Sydnee Sweley received red ribbons and Derik Linden received a white ribbon. Meghan Kratzer and Tacey Shafer participated in the Natural Resources competition. Christopher Paitz, John Zimmer, Jacob Swearingen and Kyle Betke participated in the Agronomy com- petition with Kyle being awarded a white ribbon. Kayden Lucas placed third. All three received purple ribbons. Derik Linden and Ethan Sohrweid re- ceived red ribbons for their efforts. In February the students participat- ed in the State Qualifying CDE com- petition in Grand Island. Tacey Shafer, Tessa Shafer, Sydnee Swe- ley and Kayden Lucas participated in the Veterinary Science Competi- tion with Tacey and Tessa receiving individual red ribbons. Christopher Paitz, John Zimmer, Kyle Betke, Derik Linden and Ethan Sohrweid participated in the Ag Mechanics competition with Christopher Paitz receiving a red ribbon. The team just missed out on qualifying for state. Jacob Swearingen participat- ed in the MIG welding competition. The students will now participate in the Loup City Livestock Judging competition on February 28, and the District Livestock Judging competi- tion in Kearney on March 6. Ten members of Litchfield FFA will travel to Lincoln in April for the State FFA Convention. On February 26, four freshmen and one sophomore attended the Broken Bow Livestock Judging competition and participated in the Junior Divi- sion. Tacey Shafer placed first, Tessa Shafer placed second and for the State Capitol show this March. As part of a celebration of Youth Art Month the Nebraska Art Teacher's As- sociation puts on an art show every March. The show is up in the Rotunda for the month for Congress to enjoy. This is one of the highest honors for elementary students. Ava Paitz a 4th-grade student daughter of Scott and Heather Paitz is pictured with her work "Purple Mountain Majes- ty" that was created using chalk and oil pastel. She says the meaning of her work is: "God made nature, the fields of America are beautiful and I love my farm and country." Litchfield Art Student’s Representing Litchfield Represented by Ava Paitz and Troy Mack-Sekutera at the State Capitol Ava Paitz and Troy Mack-Sekutera have the honor of having their artwork chosen Troy Mack-Sekutera is a kindergarten student and the son of Justin Mack and Mariah Sekutera. He created this work of a cow and calf using markers. He states the meaning of his work is: "A mom and a baby enjoying a nice day together."
