Spartan Basketball Update Winter sports are here and full of action. The first few weeks of boys bas- ketball have been exciting with close games and quality performances. In the first few weeks the team saw two very good teams, one being the current top team in Class D1. Mr. Matt Drew is the new boys coach year. Here is what he had to say about the team: “We have put in a lot of practice time and worked around each others schedules. I am the new person to the group, so getting to know the players and the coaches has been fun. The players have been very coachable and the coaches have done a good job pushing the players. The questions the players ask have been very basketball intelligent and I have been im- pressed with their desired to improve. We have installed a lot of big things but learning that the small things matter too, is important. We want to improve every practice, every quarter, and every game. We want to establish that we are not going to beat ourselves. We have some big games com- ing and we want to play our best and see where we are at. One of the highlights from the season so far has been when we were in the 3rd quarter of the Brady game and had a possession on defense that lasted 30 seconds which forced a long 2 for Brady”. Currently the boys are 5-2 heading into Holiday play at Giltner. Spartan Wrestling Update The wrestling season started action the last week of November with two meets back to back. “We have a great group of young wrestlers this year. With only one Senior and two Juniors, we are very young and we will see great growth throughout the season. The expectations of the wrestling team are that the team will compete well in all the competitions. They will be very well tested by the time districts gets here.”, says Coach Lance Ellison. “We went 3- 0 in our opening Quad beating Pleasanton, Axtell, Elm Creek.
