Confidence in the new year!!
Gratitude can change your life!!
Research by Robert Emmons (UC Davis) and Michael McCullough (University of Miami) did research on the effects of gratitude
with some tangible results.
● Well-being: People who kept a gratitude journal on a weekly basis exercised more regularly, had fewer physical symp-
toms, felt better about lives as a whole, and were more optimistic. Participants reported higher levels of positive emotions,
life satisfaction, vitality, optimism, and lower levels of depression and stress
● Those who kept gratitude lists were more likely to have made progress toward important personal goals (academic, inter-
personal and health-based) over 2-month period, as well as tended to hit their desired targets or goals.
● Self-guided exercises of gratitude with young adults resulted in high reported levels of alertness, enthusiasm, determina-
tion, attentiveness and energy.
● Pro-sociality: Participants in daily gratitude were more likely to report having helped someone with a personal problem or
offered emotional support to another (empathetic).
