Marie Sweley Board Secretary
Superintendent’ s Report JANUARY 2017
Swearing in of New Board Members( Page 3) At the meeting on Monday night we will swear in the new elected board members. A copy of the oath of office is included in this report.
Election of Officers After the swearing in of board members we will elect officers for next year. Please be thinking of that process when you get to the meeting. Both of these annual events will be good transition learning for Mr. Finley.
Personnel( 4) Sue Stubbs has resigned her position as our Kindergarten teacher and will retire this spring after 35 years of outstanding service to our school and community.( Please see the attached resignation letter from Sue.) Sue has been a valuable staff member throughout her career and a positive role model for all educators. We will miss her leadership and wish Sue and Gary the very best with their future retirement plans. We will begin advertising this position immediately. Wade and his hiring team will begin screening and interviewing candidates in early February.
Open Teaching Positions The ads for the new principal and the kindergarten teacher were listed in the World Herald and the“ Teach Nebraska” Website last week. If applications come in as planned, the proposed timeline of events will allow Wade and his hiring team to announce recommendations at the February board meeting. We will advertise for three weeks, review candidates and set up interviews in early February, and make recommendations for both positions at the February board meeting. The district has had several inquiries about both positions already. The process will also be good transition training for Mr. Finley.
Federal Programs Administrator Each year the board of education must assign an administrator to be the Federal Programs administrator. I believe the district should go ahead and assign Mr. Finley to this official position. I will be assisting him in learning about all federal programs and the funding associated with that funding. Mr. Finley’ s assignment this month would prevent the district from having to redo the same process in July. Motion: I recommend that Wade Finley be assigned as the Litchfield Public Schools Federal Programs Administrator for 2017.
