Superintendent ’ s Report APRIL 2017
Board Meeting Night Please note that we will still have a board meeting on April 17 although we will not be in school on that day . Elementary Aide Jerri Tuma has been hired as teacher ’ s aide next year to assist the district . Because we are projecting 17-20 students in the pre-school , we are required to have an additional aide . Jerri is student teaching this semester in our district and has a teaching degree in physical education and an endorsement in special education . She is also interested in helping as a coach and played four sports in high school at Ord Public Schools . She has just been named UNK ’ s outstanding student major of the year in Health and Physical Education . Jerri is highly recommended by our two instructors with whom she worked this semester . Her contract will be similar to the contract that Barb Kratzer was under for the 2016-17 school year .
Mark Hiebner- Music Mark Hiebner has been hired to be the music instructor in Litchfield for the 2017-18 school year . Mark is a graduate of UNK and has a double endorsement in both Music and Social Science . Mark has been the music teacher for the Pre-K-6 th grade music program for Central Valley for the past two years and 3 years of experience in the consolidated district of Greely-Wolbach before the merger and consolidation in his district . He has also been a K-12 instructor with Exeter- Milligan for one year and has a total of 5 years of teaching experience . One of Mark ’ s supervisors commented about Mark , “ Mark works well with other staff members and has great integrity . He is a very quiet mannered young man and has really grown as a teacher . He is flexible and has some great creative ideas and strategies to make music fun for his students . l would recommend Mark as an excellent candidate and would ask that you give him every consideration .” Lance Ellison- 3-4 grade Lance Ellison has been hired to teach in 3-4 class room for 2017-18 . Lance is a graduate of UNK and has been teaching in Shelton for the past 4 years . He has also helped coach football and wrestling in both the Jr . Hi . and High School . Lance comes highly recommended and comments by his supervisors include : “ Lance shows a strong sense of responsibility and work ethic . He demonstrates respect to his students and understands the importance of student data and how to use it to enhance student learning . Lance would be a very strong asset to any school district and I highly recommend him for any elementary teaching position that he is seeking .” “ Lance has experience with multiple grade levels and is a team player . He puts student ’ s needs ahead of his own and maintains a positive attitude . He always focuses on being a problem solver in a collaborative setting and welcomes feedback . I feel Lance would make a strong candidate for any teaching position .” 7-12 Science Pepper May has been offered the science position for 2017-18 . Pepper is a transition student at UNK and is in her 2 nd year of the teacher transition program . Pepper graduated from UNK with a degree in Chemistry in 2009 and received her Masters in Biology in 2013 . She is currently working as a para-educator in Gibbon Public Schools while taking classes in her transition program . Pepper comes recommended by Wendy McCardy , who is the head of the teacher transition program at UNK and helped to place Leah Kenny in our district last year . We believe Pepper will be a great fit in our school system . Formal board approval on all four positions is recommended on Monday night . Motion : I recommend that the district hire Jerri Tuma as a teacher aide , Mark Hiebner for the music position , Lance Ellison for the 3-4 grade position , and Pepper May for the Science position for 2017-18 school year .
