We have great results and it makes for a very exciting team.” Patricia sees a lot of 20-year-olds who are diagnosed with breast cancer. “To wait until 40 to get your first mammogram is not a good idea,” she stated. “I know there are a lot of pros and cons about mammograms. 3-D mammography has a much higher chance of detecting breast cancer. These are on the mobile units now. There are also methods of using ultrasound to evaluate the elastic properties of soft breast tissues.” Another way that Patricia gives back is by working with educational foundations. She’s still a member of two of those foundations and is very interested in helping provide educational scholarships. “It’s only now in giving back in this way that I really get excited about what I am doing,” Patricia says. “When you spend some time with breast cancer survivors you realize what a wonderful thing it is to give back.” Patricia holds her employees in the highest regard and has had many women work for her over the last 25 years. She related, “I realize they are still having the struggles that we had 35 years ago, dealing with our families, our children, working, and making all that work together. It takes two incomes to support a family today and that’s very hard.” Today Patricia oversees seven office employees and 25 to 100 people for the shredding part of the business. Although Patricia has worked hard and put in some long hours, she says she’s enjoyed herself every step of the way. Patricia thinks about what will happen to the company when she retires. Some companies have set up an ESO (Employee Stock Option). The feedback about that program so far is that productivity can go way off the charts because the employees share in the ownership. Patricia knows that her employees want to stay with the company. “But right now,” says Patricia, “I still have a few years left to develop this company and grow it. I would like our footprint to be the entire state of Texas. We are already in 49 cities, including Houston, San Antonio, and Beaumont, and I hope soon, Dallas.” The love of Patricia’s life is her husband Roger. They’ve been married since 1972. He does the administrative work in the company, the managing of the money, and the financial investments. In their spare time, Patricia and Roger love doing things together including fishing, traveling, and anything involving the great outdoors. Their two children, son Ryan and daughter Jennifer were brought up to not necessarily follow Patricia into her business but to find a career where they could do what they love to do. Patricia reminisced how she loved being a mother at every stage of her children’s development. She is proud of where her children are now in their life with children of their own. She adores her grandchildren and still dotes on her children who will always be the most important part of her life. “My children Pat feels extremely blessed to have team members like Sean McBride and Elmer Guitierrez. I respect my employees and listen very closely to them when they share their ideas. In addition, I reward them. I also love talking to my clients. I pride myself in staying in tune with what’s going on in my company. My employees see this and they recognize the importance of our customers.” “Every decision made at Texas Security Shredding”, says Patricia, is talked through. “From the Operations Manager to my drivers, I need their perspective on how it’s going to impact the business.
