Talk on Bhagvad Gita

Department of Languages, Literature and Aesthetics, School of Liberal Studies organized an
expert talk on Bhagvad Gita by Shri Bhagyesh Jha on Thursday, 31st August, 2017. The students
of undergraduate program of BA (Hons.), BBA (Hons.) and B.Com. (Hons.), who study World
Classics as one of their courses attended the session.
The session encompassed the discussion on various themes and characters depicted in the epic
Mahabharata with specic reference to Bhagvad Gita.
Shri Bhagyesh Jha rst created the premise of his talk and allowed students to understand the
spectrum of themes present in the text with their possible alternate readings. Students
enthusiastically participated in the discussion post the session bringing forth management
perspective, psychological perspective, and literary aspect of the text. They tried to explore
nuances of the characters and their dilemmas. Logical arguments from students further
encouraged the expert to unfold the text contextualizing it in the present time.
Dr. Nigam Dave, Director of the School and the course coordinator for World Classics shared his
reections considering the requirement of the young audience and presented memento to the
expert.
Such meaningful discussion on the text then does not remain in the closed environment of the
classroom but expands beyond classroom discussion engaging students into critical thinking.
