URBAN RENEWAL MISSION INTERNSHIP 2016-17

Annual refreshing round of URMI internship began on the morning of 16th December 2016 when all the registered First year students of BA / BBA Batch 2016 gathered in the classroom premises of LTC-1 , Block B , PDPU for the orientation session looking forward to practical exposure to how Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation operates day and night to ful�l the basic needs of the urban masses . Dr Tejas Bhandari , Assistant Commissioner from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation ( AMC ) oriented the students for their URMI journey and shared his plans and brief ideas on the learning outcomes of the internship . Dr D Sriram , the programme coordinator for URMI and Dr Reddy and Dr Nizami also explained to the students the importance of the URMI internship and acquainted them with the basic rules and regulations which govern the internship . Students were divided into six groups as per the six zones of AMC in Ahmedabad city namely North , West , New West , East , South and Central zone . All the administrative and logistic arrangements were explained to the students by Ms Hetal Vasani , the administrative coordinator for the internship .
To orient students with complex operations of Municipal Corporation and skills of Urban Development , for the last four years , Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and PDPU have been conducting close to a month long Urban Renewal Mission Internship . Such a program gives a rare opportunity to �rst semester students to
have hands on experience to urban development tasks like – collecting citizen feedback on AMC public works , water �ltration process , solid waste management , health , revenue-sources , town planning , road construction and other facets of urban development .
