1- Educated by Tara Westover Recommended for : Pre-AP 8th graders
and AP English classes up

Educated is an amazing story with a theme on education , identity , memory , uncertainty , power and independence . The story was written in a memoir form of Tara ’ s childhood from the mountains of Idaho to the halls of Cambridge University .

Tara was raised in a Mormon survivalist home in rural Idaho . Her dad had a strange view in the government and believed in Christianity so deeply that made him mad . Tara could not attend school from the restriction her dad gives her , so she had to self-study for the ACT which she did well enough for an admission to the Brigham Young University . Eventually , in many problems to overcome , she managed to earn her doctorate in intellectual history from Cambridge University . The author has expressed the situation deeply making readers shudder as we read the book .
The childhood situations Tara has been overcoming are not problems everyone could overcome in . Tara ’ s process of self-discovery is beautifully captured in “ Educated .” I believe this book can be enjoyed by everyone , no matter what genre you usually pick .
