HIGH EXPECTATIONS THIS SEASON FOR BOYS BASKETBALL BY JONASON ZHANG Basketball is one of the most popular spor ts at Shanghai Livingston American School (SLAS). The high school boys’ basketball season began in late fall and ends in late Januar y. They finished their first game and hope to be competitive all season. Rodney J. Wadkins, the coach of the boys’ basketball team said, “The team has done great so far, but they got a lot to improve on. I think the team will do very good this year as long as we practice.” He also added, “I have faith in them that they can be the undefeated team, the rest is up to them.” Masaki Monji, the student coach of the boy’s basketball team said, “I was the captain of the team, but then I got injured, so I became the student coach of the team.” He then added, “The team is doing pretty good so far, but it would be better if we practice on weak points and work on discipline.” The basketball team has done pretty well so far. Their larger goal is to go undefeated and make a tournament and let’s hope it stays that way. Everyone is looking forward to seeing how the basketball team does this season. The basketball team is doing pretty well so far. Their first game was against the French school, and won by 20 points. They will soon be playing against other schools such as YCIS, SAS Puxi, BISS, SCIS, and SSIS Suzhou. The team will have their final tournament on January 14th. There are a lot of people who contributed to improving the team. Coach Rodney Wadkins and the student coach Masaki Monji have really helped to put the team together. Jerry Wang is the captain of the team, and has also contributed to improving the team though his work ethic and leadership on the court. PLANNING YOUR WINTER HOLIDAY BY JIN HYUK CHOI The cold season is coming, and leaves are falling, and the sky is turning dark, these signs point to the fact that winter is coming. During winter, we have a winter holiday and it is one of the biggest holidays at Shanghai Livingston American School (SLAS). Before winter holiday, people plan on what they should do; they prepare for a trip, or go back to their hometown and countr y. Winter holiday is a long break of 2 weeks and a time to have fun. SLAS students are excited about having a winter holiday. “I will go to London during winter holiday,” said Aidan Lupori, a 10th grade student at SLAS. He also added “If I stay in Shanghai, I want to hang out with my friends.” you can walk all the way to the top. You can see beautiful view from the mountain. In spare moments, you can see street food, that you could fill your empty stomach. Korean street food is fantastic. “I will go to Japan during winter holiday,” said Keita Kuroda a 10th grade student at SLAS. He also added, “Previously, I have been to Hawaii during another holiday.” Many students at SLAS want to enjoy, and have fun during winter holiday, I hope they can enjoy their holiday, and have a super memorable time. Many people in SLAS want to take advantage of winter holidays to visit different places, such as Korea, USA, and Japan. Korea has fascinating winter activities there are many hiking trails for winter, such as Mount Seolak, Mount Jili, Mount Han-la in Jeju. You can take a car to the base of the mountain and 9
