TOP TIPS TO IMPROVE TEST SCORES BY MIKAELA JANE CORDERO Do you want to get an amazing grade on your next test? At Shanghai Livingston American School, students and teachers work daily on the improvement of their grades. Follow these tips and suggestions to get a good grade on your next examination. Mr. Cade McBroom, a science teacher at SLAS, suggested “always recheck your whole test paper just in case you miss any questions before the time runs out.” It is important to focus on your test to get into good colleges. The first thing to do is to put all your electronic devices away, so that you won’t get distracted while you’re studying. Before you take your tests, make sure to pay attention in class and take good notes, so that you can memorize the important details. Don’t stay up all night, since this can cause stress and you won’t be able to focus on your test because of how tired you are. It is suggested to get at least 8 or more hours of sleep before you take your test. Lucas Carson, a 9th grader at SLAS said, “When you have a difficult question, skip it and don’t waste your time if you don’t know it. Go over it when you’re done with your other questions.” Before you take your test make sure to ask your instructor about the questions you want to know about. While taking the test, try and answer the easiest one first so that you will have time to answer the hard ones after. Don’t rush while taking your test, however, don’t or take it too slow, or else your time limit might run out. If you don’t know the answer to one of the question’s on the test, don’t panic, and, the most importantly, don’t cheat. Cheating can lead you to the worst path; you may get a zero or get in trouble with your parents or instructor. If you get a low grade, try to ask your instructor if you are able to take the test again or ask for extra credit. Another tip is that you should have a positive attitude to keep you going while taking a test. Remember to eat a healthy breakfast because it is one of the most important meals of the day. If you’re hungry it will be hard for you to focus on your test, so make sure to at least eat a nutrition bar or a healthy meal. Also make sure to be hydrated before you take your test and go to the bathroom beforehand. We hope that this help you to understand what to do when you’re taking a test. Don’t forget, there are more strategies you can do while taking a test. Remember! Never cheat on a test.
