BASKETBALL IS LIFE AT SLAS BY JONASON ZHANG At Shanghai Livingston American School (SLAS) there is a lot of sport teams. The boy’s highschool basketball team is the upcoming sport right after the high school volleyball season ends. Basketball improves relationships between people and develops teamwork. Everyone is looking forward to the boy’s high school basketball season. The practice usually starts with lay-ups and shooting drills. There is also a ten push-up punishment for all missed shots. Afterwards, the team will start running up and down the court while practicing their offense and defense.Team members work really hard during practice to greatly increase their chances of winning their games. Senior Yuto Yoshikawa, a member of the basketball team said, “This year’s basketball team will be better than last year because there are much more people playing this year.” Senior Rogan Jeong, captain of the boy’s basketball team said, “I think we will be able to take the championship this year, but it’s not going to happen if people don’t improve.” The SLAS boy’s high school basketball season starts right after the end of the high school volleyball season. Mr. Jamal Hill is the coach of the team. He has been coaching basketball for more than 3 years at SLAS. Some starters from the team include Rogan Jeong, Yuto Yoshikawa, Jerry Wang, Masaki Monji, and Alex Fang. The team practices every other day from 4pm to 6pm. This is only the beginning as all the members of the boy’s high school basketball team are working hard for victory in their first game. The SLAS boy’s high school basketball team has the capability and athletes to perform great. Everyone is looking forward to the first game of the season. 21
