THE PERFECT FINISH
Once you have nailed your shade selection , turn your attention to the coverage and finish of your foundation . Stick with sheer or light coverage if your skin is pretty clear and opt for medium or full coverage if you have imperfections that you ’ d prefer the world didn ’ t know about . Foundations with a radiant , dewy finish will give your complexion a youthful sheen but if you have oily skin or want your base to be budge-proof , a matte finish foundation is your best bet . “ Whether you use a tinted moisturiser or a full coverage foundation , have fun with it ,” says Susan . “ The only mistake I often see is when women of a certain age ( usually over 45 ) use a foundation that is too heavy or matte . It may look good for a short while or in photos but , within a few hours , all that product begins to settle into fine lines , making the skin look older .”
To apply your foundation , you can use your fingers , a brush or a sponge . “ What you use to apply your foundation is a matter of choice . Fingertips help the foundation warm to the skin , often making the finish look very natural , while a brush gives a very even coverage , as does a sponge ,” reveals Susan . If you are having problems creating a smooth finish , take a look at your skin care routine . Susan believes that what you put on the skin before foundation can have a big impact on how the coverage applies : “ If your foundation usually rolls or balls up on the skin , it ’ s probably because it is incompatible with your moisturiser or you haven ’ t given the moisturiser enough time to absorb . Try waiting for a few minutes for it to settle into the skin before applying your foundation and this should solve the problem .”
