Spring/Summer 2019 SIX STAR Welcome to the Spring/Summer 2019 issue of Six Star, the magazine for Subaru owners in Canada Once again, we have an issue filled with tales of adventure and stories from the world of Subaru. From the image on our cover, you may have guessed that our main feature in this issue is truly special. We’ve uncovered one of the best private collections of classic Subaru vehicles in the world, owned by TV presenter Paul Cowland. Diehard car enthusiasts may know Paul already; based in the UK, he’s the star of the TV shows Turbo Pickers (Discovery Channel UK) and Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars (Quest). When we hear stories about classic car collectors, the Subaru brand doesn’t often make the headlines. But this collection may well change that—Paul is a true Subaru fanatic and we were fortunate to get him involved in this issue. As a sidebar, a pristine version of the legendary Subaru Impreza STI 22B is now listed for close to $150,000 at auctions around the world, an amazing thing when you stop to think about it! Of course, Subaru vehicles have always come standard with fantastic reliability and durability, so it makes sense that their collectability is on the rise. As further evidence of this legacy, we can report that Subaru has again been named the Best Mainstream Brand in the ALG Canadian Residual Value Awards. This is just one award we’ve received so far this year. Subaru also has more IIHS Top Safety Picks than any other car brand. You can learn more about these awards in our Subaru 360 section; in this section, you can also read about the Subaru VIZIV Adrenaline Concept, as well as the forthcoming 2020 Subaru Legacy and 2020 Subaru Outback. From a travel and adventure perspective, we again have great stories for you in this issue. Our main travel feature covers one of the most isolated parts of our country: Labrador. The furthest points of this region were finally connected to the rest of Canada with the completion of the Trans-Labrador Highway in 2011; some of this stretch is paved, but a lot of it is still a gravel road, making it the perfect adventure for a Subaru driver. Our writer made the drive soon after the highway was completed and returned to Labrador a further two times because she found the land so enchanting. We also have a feature on some of the most ambitious long-distance bike tours in the world, all of them originating in Canada but not necessarily finishing here—a great challenge, to be sure. And we look at the phenomenon of shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, a practice that began in Japan, but has found a real champion right here in Canada. In closing, we hope that you will enjoy this issue of Six Star and see at as motivation to get out and explore more in your Subaru, regardless of which model you drive. So we invite you to enjoy the read and enjoy the open road! Yasushi Enami Chairman, President and CEO Subaru Canada, Inc. PHOTOGRAPHY: ALDAS MINKEVICIUS six star magazine 3
