The white WRX STI has a similar lineage. The car was developed by Subaru UK as a
charity ‘joy ride’ machine at race events to help raise money for injured war veterans, so it
could often be found sliding sideways at circuits all over the country. As the car features a
forged, blueprinted engine to help it cope with life at the rev limiter, it was also sold to Paul
for a “very fair price” once it had been retired from active service.
Yet again, he took an already potent performance car and pushed it to new levels. More
power from the engine, an upgraded exhaust and a few other tricks take it to a heady 370
brake horsepower. “It’s ridiculously fast, this thing,” Paul intones with an enormous smile.
“On a track, it’s upset many, many expensive cars—and hasn’t this always been the charm of
these cars, even in standard trim?”
