“I can’t pick just one favourite!” Paul laughs. “That’s like
asking a parent to choose a favourite child. They all appeal
on a different level and have different abilities and charms. If
I had to pick the one that’s the most fun to drive, though, it
would have to be the BRZ.”
Starting with the first registered example to land in the
UK, Paul acquired this car from Subaru after helping them to
develop an accessories range for the car on this very machine.
“We used it to develop and test spring, brake, exhaust and
wheel packages,” he continues. “During that time, we went to
some of the best tracks in Europe, including Brands Hatch,
Silverstone and the fabled Nürburgring. Naturally, after that
kind of beating, it couldn’t be sold through the dealer network,
so the guys very kindly offered me a ‘mate’s rates’ deal and I
added it to the collection.”
Since then, the brakes, interior, power and handling have
all been upgraded to make this BRZ an even more special
track weapon. The car rolls on semi-slick tires and packs
an additional 40 brake horsepower over the stock version.
“Between two points, in the real world, it’s practically
unbeatable,” he smiles. “This is one of the best chassis ever
made by Subaru. It’s yet another giant killer that takes me
back to that first test drive.”
