The all-new 2017 Subaru Impreza may have been released less than a year ago , but it ’ s already earned some impressive awards for safety , retained value and overall excellence .
In terms of safety , the Impreza is breaking new ground in the compact car segment , making a big impact with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ). When equipped with EyeSight ®, Steering Responsive Headlights and High Beam Assist , the Impreza received “ good ” ratings across all eight of the IIHS evaluation criteria .
Built using the new Subaru Global Platform , the Impreza also earned a “ superior ” rating for front crash prevention , making this the first vehicle in the small car category to receive the highest possible ratings in all IIHS tests . The 2017 Subaru Impreza is designated a Top Safety Pick +, the highest possible overall rating from the IIHS . But safety is just part of the story .
Earlier this year , the Subaru Impreza was also honoured with the ALG Canadian Residual Value Award for the compact segment . The Impreza has topped this segment seven times in the nine-year history of these awards , a remarkable record . Given that the all-new Impreza builds upon the successes of the previous generations , we expect good things at next year ’ s ALG Residual Value Award presentations as well . To top it all off , the 2017 Subaru Impreza has also been named Car of the Year Japan . This top-tier award pits all the best new vehicles in the world against each other in a winner-takes-all contest , as voted on by 59 leading automotive journalists from Japan . The new Impreza comfortably outdistanced its main competitors , the Toyota Prius and Audi A4 .
“ When we started developing the Impreza over four years ago , never did I imagine I ’ d be standing here today with such a prestigious award ,” said chief engineer Kazuhiro Abe while accepting the award at the Tokyo International Exchange Center this past December . “ The Impreza ’ s new global platform has great meaning for the company moving forward and will underpin nearly all of our cars over the next decade . On behalf of all of my R & D team , I ’ d like to thank the jurors for their support of this car .”
