BIG BITES FROM

THE BIG APPLE

At the 2017 New York International Auto Show, Subaru unveiled two exciting crossovers: the all-new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and the refreshed 2018 Subaru Outback.
The new Crosstrek is the second vehicle to be built upon the state-of-theart Subaru Global Platform. This robust starting point has been engineered to deliver superior rigidity, which translates into increased crashworthiness, sharper handling and heightened ride comfort.
Power is still provided by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER, but it’ s an all-new engine of the same displacement. This new engine boasts direct fuel injection and 152 horsepower( four more than the outgoing model), as well as better efficiency and driveability.
The new Crosstrek is slightly larger than last year’ s model: 15 mm longer, 20 mm wider and with a wheelbase that’ s 30 mm longer. These increases have created big results on the inside, where the roomier cabin and larger cargo area help create more utility for those quick getaways.
This sporty and agile crossover also features a bold new look. The Subaru signature hexagonal grille and hawk-eye headlights lead to a more sculptural body with prominent wheel arches, flowing lines and black-coloured cladding.
The appeal of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is further strengthened by classleading active safety systems, including the optional EyeSight ® advanced driver-assist system, Blind Spot Detection and Reverse Automatic Braking.
While the 2018 Subaru Outback is not an all-new vehicle, it has received a wealth of changes for the new model year.
The exterior of this highly capable SUV alternative is now bolder and more rugged looking. The highlights here include wider and lower front grille openings, a new front bumper and redesigned, C-shaped headlights with daytime LED running lights.
From a mechanical standpoint, the new Outback features retuned suspension dampers for a smoother ride, as well as revised steering and brake systems to create a more direct and connected feel. The Lineartronic CVT for 2.5i models utilizes a quieter chain and adjustments to engine timing further reduce powertrain noise.
The latter two enhancements help create a quieter and more peaceful passenger cabin; the reshaped door mirrors, new sound-insulating glass for the front side windows and thicker rear wheel well aprons further reduce ambient noise. The cabin also features more premium materials used throughout, as well as a revised climate control system that delivers cool air more quickly and ensures more uniform temperature.
In terms of safety, the new Outback makes an even more profound statement with the addition of available Steering Responsive Headlights( SRH). This feature sees the LED headlights angled in the direction that the vehicle is turning. SRH is the latest active safety system for a vehicle armed with a wealth of such systems, including High Beam Assist, Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD and the EyeSight ® advanced driver-assist system.
There you have it: two new models for Subaru, two more compelling reasons to visit your local Subaru dealer this year.
