Six Star : When were you first interested in becoming a paramedic ?
Kelly : I ’ ve been interested in becoming a paramedic since I was in high school . I was always interested in the emergency services growing up — I ’ ve always wanted to be in a field where I can help people .
Ken : Ever since I was a kid , staying up late and watching Third Watch on TV , I ’ ve been fascinated by what paramedics do . ( Now , obviously , what people see on TV shows and what paramedics actually do is very different .) I also joined St . John Ambulance as a cadet and worked my way up through the ladder and that was pretty much it — I was hooked .
Raymond : I first became interested early on in high school ; studying biology and kinesiology got me interested in the medicine . At the time , I was also doing lifeguarding and first aid courses and that really started the career progression . I wanted to do something in the community to help people .
Ken : It ’ s a 2019 Subaru WRX with just cosmetics stuff added . I ’ m not really going to spend much money on this one as I ’ m planning to get a new one next year . Then , I ’ ll for sure look into getting a different exhaust system , new intakes and a COBB tune — the usual ! So , fingers crossed that the SUBARU BOXER FA24 is coming !
Raymond : I currently own a 2015 Subaru WRX STI . I haven ’ t really done anything to it yet , but I have some plans in the future — right now , it ’ s perfect .
Six Star : When did you first become interested in owning a Subaru ?
Kelly : A lot of my coworkers have Subarus and they ’ ve had nothing but good things to say about them . Seeing so many at work piqued my interest and I started researching .
Six Star : Describe your toughest day on the job in dealing with the pandemic .
Kelly : My toughest day was having backto-back critical patients while wearing full PPE . Also , there was the increased stress of transporting a potential COVID-19 patient and taking the proper steps to decontaminate my equipment and myself .
Ken : Every day is unique and every day presents its own challenges , pandemic or not . However , having to wear a respirator , safety goggles that keep fogging up every two seconds , a face shield , and then having to seal ourselves in a giant plastic gown — when it ’ s 40 degrees outside — is definitely at the top of my list .
Raymond : Every day has its new challenges ; my partner and I try not to take anything as being bad or the worst , but just try to learn from all the experiences .
Six Star : Tell us about your Subaru …
Kelly : In December 2018 , I bought my 2019 Subaru Ascent and I love it ! For Christmas that year , my dad bought me a compartment divider and , this year , my fiancé bought me a cargo liner for both of my dogs .
