to enjoy , is a visit to Littlejohn Farm , just outside Picton . The brainchild of Zach and Luhana , a couple who moved to the area years ago , this small working farm educates guests on sustainable practices , then dazzles them with meals prepared right then and there . Zach grew up in a farming community north of Toronto and is a trained chef and sommelier ; Luhana hails from northern Brazil , where she became a micro-finance expert ; together , they ’ ve realized their vision for creating a thriving business that connects people to the food and the food to the land .
During our tour , we walked the farm and visited their small collection of pigs , chickens and ducks . We pulled fresh vegetables from their garden and fed long blades of
grass to their goats . Then , under the tutelage of Zach , we explored every possible way to stretch sourdough , from bread to biscuits to pastries . At the end of the experience , he treated us to what was one of the best pasta meals we ’ ve ever experienced — fresh pasta , fresh cream , fresh vegetables from the garden — accompanied by an incredible Chardonnay from Closson Chase Vineyards . Heaven .
The scene at Chetwyn Farms , north of Wellington , is decidedly different — but just as representative of the County .
