The teacher announces the task for the quintet and gives a time frame for solving this task . After completing the quintet , students have the opportunity to present it in front of the class .
After studying about English celebrations and festivals , in groups , students had to make quintets with the following : Christmas , Easter , Notting Hill , Bonfire Night and April Fools ' Day . The structure of the quintet was given on a piece of paper and an example was written on the board :
HALLOWEEN mysterious---------- funny reading-------- watching---------guessing It is so exciting .
TRICK-OR-TREAT Students worked in pairs or groups .
Culture club It is an interesting activityfor teaching cultural elements . It may take place in the students ’ classroom , in the school ’ s library , in the foreign language or multimedia laboratory . The students and the teacher meet according to a scheduled programme and discuss some topics of interest concerning the English culture and civilization . This model is preferable to students since they study in a relaxed framework , without thinking of marks , of tests , of too much homework . This is an opportunity for gifted students to show their abilities .
Such an activity was held during the week before the Easter holiday when the teacher organised a culture club in the schoolyard . It was more like a question- answer session when all the students could ask any type of questions related to English culture and civilization and the teacher ( or other classmates ) gave answers . It was a good way of filling some understanding gaps of what was previously studied .
