Jumbles It can be used with a focus on reading or listening . In groups , students are given some envelopes consisting of jumbled parts of a text , which they have to put in a correct order , taking cues into consideration . Buzz-groups The buzz group technique follows the procedure : students are arranged in small groups and have to discuss as many aspects concerning a given topic as possible and then they have to present their ideas to the rest of the class . According to Harmer ( 2015 ), buzz groups are preferred by students as the technique avoids the students being exposed to talking to the rest of the class without having put their thoughts together for a few minutes . The students may become more confident this way .
The application of this technique can be exemplified through the following activity : the students had to explain some quotes related to reading , so before saying their own opinions , the students discussed the meaning of the quotes in buzz-groups . Task : What do the following quotes try to tell us ? What do you think the authors wanted to transmit ? ” Today a reader , tomorrow a leader ” - Margaret Fuller ” Reading is to mind what exercise is to the body ” - Richard Steele ” Reading for me , is spending time with a friend ” - Gary Paulsen
