There are several techniques which , if used thoughtfully , might help a speaker have a more powerful impact on the audience : personal stories , addressing the audience , quotations , rhetorical questions , and tripling are only a few that one has used throughout the years in introduction , body , or conclusion . People are tempted to make use of several techniques when speaking in order to render speeches more appealing and really unique . However , these have limited or no impact without choosing the right rhythm or correct and complete organization .
Finally , the audience plays an essential role in a successful speech : bearing in mind who we are addressing during our talk will help us ensure a complete and effective conveyance of the message . It is essential that speakers remember for whom their speech is intended as this will determine our choice of words , arguments and examples chosen to support a viewpoint and , last but not least , how much we insist on or develop a certain aspect . Maintaining eye contact with the people who listen to you will both mean effective communication with your audience and also knowing when to adjust or refine your speech so as to make sure it reaches its destination .
High school students should take all of the above into account , alongside other factors which might influence their speeches , like : courage to tackle such a task , willingness to get out of their comfort zone , grit to continue even after a possible setback , hard work and a lot of relevant research . Speaking does not happen by itself ; it is supported by general knowledge and attitude , values and beliefs , interpersonal and intrapersonal skills . Together with thorough practice and effort .
Speaking in front of an audience is not an easy task , even for professional speakers . Practice helps tremendously , knowing strategies and studying examples will contribute considerably , but this is a skill to consider developing in the long run , maybe adjusting and improving it all our lives . It is , however , something really rewarding , both in the short and long term .
