SPRING INTO HEALTHY HABITS
A s we notice the days getting longer, the trees growing greener
and the weather becoming warmer, it’s easy to see how spring
can be all about new beginnings. Why not make this a season
to incorporate some healthy changes into your lifestyle?!
Keep Active, Beat Stress
As most of us know, it’s quite common to become slightly
more inactive during the winter months. No-one wants to
venture outdoors in subzero temperatures.
But now that spring is in the air, it’s a perfect reason to lace
up your running shoes and take advantage of the warmer
temperatures! Remember to start slow, perhaps first by going
for a 15 minute walk around the neighbourhood and then
gradually increase your walking time daily.

If you’re looking for a change of scenery, consider a safe
hiking trail where you can admire the new spring blossoms,
perhaps take in the sounds of a bubbling brook and get in
tune with nature. To help combat stress you could even grab
your Yoga mat and do some stretching and meditating in
your favourite local park.
Get Into Good Food Habits
This spring, take advantage of the new seasonal fruits and
vegetables. Salads are not only easy to whip up but also
provide a lot of flexibility. You can add cheese, boiled egg,
fish, chicken or nuts to your salad for an added protein boost.
Smoothies make for another light, healthy food option that’s
also refreshing. With a lot of new fruits and veggies in season,
head to your nearest supermarket or farmer’s market and get
creative. Fruit juice, almond milk, yogurt and honey go down
perfectly with any smoothie! •
