HEALTHY TIPS + TRICKS: SAVE THE SKINS!
A s it turns out, you really should save the peels of onions and garlic, as
they are filled with goodness! The natural paper wrappings that protect
onions and garlic are nutrient dense, filled with vitamins A, C and E,
as well as antioxidants. They are rich in flavonoids,
which are known to be potent anti-inflammatories and antioxidants –
recommended for boosting the body’s immune system
and lowering cholesterol.
How to extract their benefits:
Fill a small pot with garlic and onion skins, and cover with water.
Allow to simmer for 20 minutes, then cool, strain,
and drink as a tea to absorb all of their nutrients!
Use the whole onion
and garlic including
their beneficial skins
when making broth
and soups. Strain skins
out when finished
cooking, which is much
easier to do than prior
to cooking!
Their anti-fungal properties help to relieve
itchy and dry skin when applied topically.
Adding a few drops of Rosemary essential oil
is good for skin use plus it smells great!
Note: Pregnant or nursing women should
NOT use any essential oils.
Drink one cup of skins’ tea infusion
each night before bed to help relieve
muscle cramps and restless legs.
Plus it helps relax the mind and
induce sleep!

mustard soak... as a detox!
Got a cold that just won’t go away? Feeling fatigued or congested? Throw
a couple of tablespoons of mustard powder in your 20-minute warm foot
bath, alongside your garlic and onion skins!
Mustard baths are a traditional remedy in England, and have been used for
centuries for the treatment of colds, sore muscles, fever and congestion.
Mustard stimulates the sweat glands by opening pores and promoting the
body to rid itself of toxins. When this happens, circulation is improved,
congestion is relieved and pain is eased.
