Dr . Rodney Tucker Director , UAB Center for Palliative & Supportive Care
Greetings and Welcome Greetings to our colleagues throughout the region ! Welcome to the first quarterly newsletter of the Southeast Institute for Innovation in Palliative and Supportive Care at UAB ! As some of you may already know , the Institute which we abbreviate as SIIPSC , was established almost three years ago through a generous contribution to the UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care . Its primary purpose is to extend knowledge and learning about palliative and supportive care throughout our region enhance access to this specialty care . Establishing a network to disseminate best practices , evidence base , and innovative care models that facilitate spread and scale in our underserved part of the nation is paramount .
It is an honor to work with our Center for Palliative and Supportive Care Steering team including Dr . Ronit Elk who is an Associate Director of the Center and the primary lead for SIIPSC along with our Regional Director , Aras Acemgil . You will read more about them in this first issue in addition to more information about some of the goals of SIIPSC in the coming years . Framing our work to match our populations in the South , our cultures and values , and adapting models that may originate in other parts of the country to our region will be a large part of the work . Keeping you as members of the Southern region in this field is one of our goals so we hope to highlight the work in other institutions as you share your successes and challenges .
We welcome your input into the content , format and innovative ideas for the newsletter as we move forward and hope to see you at our first ever virtual Southeast Innovation Summit to be held between November 16th- 20th . Bringing knowledge and networking closer to you during these challenging times .
