Mens’ folk costumes in Sicily
Men’s folk costumes can be divided in everyday clothing and items of clothing used during celebrations and festivals; the difference in style was even more evident in men’s clothing. The simplest clothes were the shepherds’ clothes, made up of:
-the “vrachi”, goat leather trousers;
the “giubba”, resistent and waterproof goat leather jacket ;
“scarpe di pilu” shoes made of leather , folded at the top, designed for shepherds and peasants who, working in the fields and in the pastures, needed to keep their foot warm;
-the “causi”, velvet trousers fastened to the knees by buckes, with the flap at the waist;
-a green or light blue waist belt, a fabric strip;
-a ‘panzera’, a waistcoat with brass buttons;
-“jippuni”, a dark velvet tunic with many pockets;
A brown fabric cap for the peasants and a light blue cap for the sailors
