National and Regional folk costumes are important features expressing the culture of people and places. In Italy we can still find folk costumes in Regions as Sardinia and Sicily, where people wear this kind of costumes during important celebrations as religious festivals and historical reenactments. Sicily folk costumes are still used in the smallest inland towns and villages. Some of these items of clothing, however, are not longer used even in their modern versions , as the handkerchief on the head or the apron on the skirt.
Women and men’s clothes included different items of clothing with different shapes, materials and colours. Moreover, everyday clothes were different from the clothes designed for the festivals.
