KOUT! ystery Tour” Simmons ~~~ Nothing beats festival camping with vinyl. Lounging around at Kispiox watching daytime tunes. The carving above mainstage at Kispiox creates the perfect vibe. The pedal-powered party machine in high gear. floor to wail away on the drums from beneath the kit. • Treebomb’s Theresa Mohr rockin’ out the doublenecked guitar with members of The Ramblin’ Ambassadors and Hey Ocean! • Ramblin’ Ambassadors’ Saturday night high-energy surf-rock set that had the crowd dancing up a storm. • Campfire bacon. • I missed this myself, but apparently it was a sight to behold: Friday night’s Aurora Borealis. Kispiox The Kispiox Valley Music Festival is always a good time. So many elements make it great: camping with friends, the river, great tunes, good food, awesome vendors. This year, CICK brought out our pedal-powered party machine for the first time. If you weren’t there, it’s basically an aluminum bike trailer filled with everything you need for a dance party: PA system, turntables, lights, and disco ball. The whole crazy contraption is powered by a battery, which is, in turn, powered by a pedal-operated bike generator. We lifted the thing onto sidestage on Saturday night and after Rachelle van Zanten finished her show, we got that crowd dancing, and after us, Dubtonic closed things down with a great set. That was sure the highlight of our festival experience, but here are a few others: • Listening to vinyl at the campsite, courtesy of the host of Analog Mountain, who brought his portable record player. • High Society. The Shaggy Manes. Morlove. Los Gringos Salvajes. • Late-night campfire jams. • Watching kids dancing—much can be learned by observing children losing themselves to the music. • Swimming in the river to cool off. [sic] 10
