ON THE MIC
To say that Terry Sullivan loves bluegrass
music is an understatement. His kno wledge of and
passion for the genre is remarkable. The guy really digs
bluegrass. For the past two years, he has hosted his show
on Wednesday evenings from 8-9, bringing in guests for
live performances, interviewing musicians, featuring
prominent and up-and-coming ar tists, and done it all
with panache. There’s something about hearing someone
who gets so excited about a par ticular thing—be it
science, music, literature, gardening—that makes you
excited too…whether you’re into that thing or not. It’s
contagious enthusiasm, maybe. Well, Terry Sullivan of the
Bluegrass Connection has it in droves. We caught up with
him to hear about his history on the radio and to try to
find out what makes him tick. [sic]
[sic]: When did you first start doing a show on CICK and
how did it all come about?
TS: It’s kinda funny how it all came about. I moved to

the local (commercial) radio station to see if they would
support a late night Blueg rass Show—like on a Friday
night from 12-1 am. The Chilliwack station was pretty
mainstream and I think they had a heavy rock scene going
on, from what I could gather. So, of course, they denied
my request for a bluegrass music show as it “didn’t match
with the station’s objectives”, or some other lame reason.
Fast forward six months to my first or second day at work
in Smithers, and a colleague of mine , Ken, let me know
