themselves to end the set on a high note. Well done guys. PREVALENT bring us back to the cosy basement stage. But their loud and in your face hardcore grunts and growls, erase all that was cosy on the stage. They will definately never be mistaken for just another rock band. Understanding their lyrics is like trying to understand locals, iff you're on holiday in a country far away: they speak a dialect even people one town over may not understand. What always comes to mind when I see a hardcore band, is that they may not even need words to bring their message across. They will try to insert their message through the pores of your skin. Resisting is not possible. BERELØR are one of the biggest names on stage tonight. Their music has brought them to stages on bigger festivals already. Their experience has made them into a well oiled machine. Starting to talk to the crowd while you are still backstage, walking on stage and shaking each others hand wishing all a good show. It's all part of the show, and it works. It shows BERELØR have thought things through. And singing about beer, drinking and summerbarbeques always helps to speak to a crowd. The people at OOSTMALLE ROCKT clearly felt a home with the band, their music and their show. And the band did what any bad should do, anywhere they play: they had a hell of a good time. Returning to the basement stage, COLOURS DEAD BLEED just started their set. Hard, in your face rock music, that seems to be written to break every bone in your body. And it's played that way as well. With drums that never seemed to miss a beat, guitar riffs that could be the soundtrack to the next underground horror movie and vocals that resonated in my head, quite a while after the set. This is hardcore of a different kind. Still heavy and brutal, but distilled like a fine wodka and riped as a 20 year old whisky. Full bodied as the first crowdsurfers of the day. The music was a great companion for those in the moshpit, that suddenly turned the small basement into a boiling cesspool of arms and legs, seemingly no longer attached to the bodies they once belonged to. GROHL is a name that will ring a number of bells with rock fans. No need to explain where this cover band got their inspiration. With songs as 'Bridge Burning', 'All My Life', 'Break Out' and 'Learn To Fly', these guys had no trouble getting the crowd to party hard. Approaching the original sound, but staying far enough from the FOO FIGHTERS' work is the perfect mix to cover the work of DAVE GROHL and friends. At times, it felt his Grohlyness himself was on stage, and gave it his all. Again, this is a great band to see live and it shows the people behind OOSTMALLE ROCKT have the skills to build a decent line-up. Attracting a mixed crowd isn't easy. Keeping them all for the most part of your evening, is an even bigger task. The punkers, rockers, mothers and sons I'd seen before, were all still in front of the stage, an they were having a hell of a party. With a very powerfull start to their set, MOMENTS convinced from the first notes they played. The fans of hardcore and other core styles related to metal, were very much catered for on this years OOSTMALLE ROCKT. A style that doesn't really relate to the other bands in the basement. MOMENTS had the technicians running to save the cables. Assisted by people in the crowd iff needed. With a vocalist jumping all over the stage and in the crowd, guitar players interacting with the drummer, jumping up and down with one foot on the bassdrum, and creating havoc the entire set long. To start talking to the crowd about how you always should cherish the time you have with your loved ones. That's rock 'n roll in my book. Hardcore isn't nessesarily a violent style of metal... It's about disposing of the energy you have, and giving it your all. On stage or in the crowd. With BLACK JACK, OOSTMALLE ROCKT has lined up real legends. You may better know them as KILLER, and they are around since the eighties. To some of our readers that may sound as ancient history, to me that's nothing less then legacy. As BLACK JACK, they play covers. With music from TED NUGENT and ZZ TOP, BLACK JACK start their set strong. This is a party for lovers of screaming guitars, epic solo's and good old rock 'n roll. Let the good times roll and party all night long. BLACK JACK is in town motherfuckers. Wim Op de beeck
