PAINTED STORK , DWARKA, GUJARAT, INDIA T he Painted Stork is large member of Stork family. They are found in south east Asia and overall in India. The Scientific Name is Mycteria leucocephala and in Gujarati its called etc in other region or areas.They have long, heavy, yellow bill, featherless orange yellow face, head is bare and orange or red- dish in colour. The legs are yellow to red but looklike white due their habit. They are 36 to 40 inches tall and weighting around 2 to 3.5 kg. Mostly the males are larger than fe- males. Painted storks breed on trees either in mixed colonies along with other water birds. They seen in pairs, parties and large congregations near water bodies like shal- low water places, dry watered places, lakes etc. They are takes Fish, frogs, crabs and snakes in their food.The breeding season begins in the winter months shortly after the monsoons.
