P I E D K I N G F I SH E R My Home Town ,Riverside Grassland, Dwarka, Gujarat, India T he Pied Kingfisher was also known as Lesser Pied Kingfisher and Scientific name is Ceryle rudis. The Pied Kingfish- er are called ‘ KABARO KALKALIYO’ in Gujarati. This Kingfisher is water bird and mostly seems around the water or water stores place like lake, rivers etc. They are dis- tributed in Asian countries and African countries. They are mostly founds in family means in pair or more than two or more counts. These pied kingfishers have black and white plumage, crown and crest are black. The upperparts are barred in black. The kingfisher bill is black and irises are black. The crest is neat and the upperparts are barred in black. These Kingfisher are medium size birds that longer around 9 inches and weight is about 70 to 100g. They are usually hunts by hovering over the water and diving on vertically down to capture fish. If they did not foraging, they have a take straight rapid flight.
