In the midst of a dazzling and prolific career at the forefront of modern jazz innovation,
Miles Davis (Cheadle) virtually disappears from public view for a period of five years
in the late 1970s. Alone and holed up in his home, he is beset by chronic pain from
a deteriorating hip, his musical voice stifled and numbed by drugs and pain medications, his mind haunted by unsettling ghosts from the past.
Marketing/Promotion: Promote the movie at jazz clubs and other live music venues, including coffee houses, lounges, and bars. Display one-sheets and screen the
film’s trailer at these venues before and between acts. Reach out to bands and jazz
ensembles at universities and in the community for collaborative efforts. Team up
with radio stations that specialize in jazz music and have them do a block of Miles
Davis music to promote the film. Davis was also known for his paintings so art tie-ins
are another possibility. Consider comment cards on opening weekend and play up
positive responses. The film played at the New York Film Festival to positive reviews.
Compatible films for trailer programming: Knight of Cups, The Bronze, I Saw the
Light
