NAC – Where Food Meets Fun The National Association of Concessionaires (NAC) announced that its new tagline will be, “Where Food Meets Fun.” Association members voted on four potential taglines before and during the NAC Concession & Hospitality Expo in Minneapolis. The unveiling was made Thursday, July 21 during the NAC Annual Meeting as part of the Expo. Shelly Olesen, ACS, of C. Cretors and Company submitted the winning idea. Olesen will receive a complimentary full NAC membership for 2017 and a free full registration for the 2017 NAC Concession & Hospitality Expo to be held on July 11-14, 2017 at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Scottsdale, Arizona. The contest was developed by the NAC Outreach Committee, which was looking for a tagline to go with NAC name, logo and other communications. The goal was to find a sentence or phrase that accurately and succinctly captures the essence of the Association, its members and value relevant in today’s industry environment. Many great ideas were submitted to the Outreach Committee for consideration. The Committee carefully reviewed the submissions and selected four finalists that were voted on by the members of NAC. NAC to Offer CCM Classes On-Line The National Association of Concessionaires (NAC) announced that it will partner with the University of Memphis to conduct a Concession Manager Certification (CCM) On-Line course for the 2017 Spring Semester. Larry Etter, CCM, NAC’s Director of Education and Senior Vice President of Malco Theatres will once again be the instructor. Etter also serves as adjunct professor at the University’s Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management. The announcement is based on a recommendation from the NAC Education and Outreach Committees and was approved by the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Due to the success of the CCM program, which has been offered in a live classroom for over 20 years, the on-line option is designed to make the course more accessible to industry professionals who perhaps don’t have the time or travel budget, or simply prefer an on-line learning experience. On-line students will join a class that is already being conducted for students on the University of Memphis campus, which will be recorded and broadcasted in a webinar format. Successive sessions will then be made available for review and study purposes. The tentative schedule is to hold the class every Friday during the semester from 12:00 to 3:00 PM Central. The course will be made available on naconline.org starting in January 2017 For 20 years this program has offered targeted, concessions-specific training that provides the tools and skills needed to manage a concessions program efficiently and profitably. Over 1,500 graduates from all types of venues and facilities have been certified through this program, which presents instruction that can be traced directly to the profit margin. The course is open to both concession operators and suppliers. Suppliers who have taken the course find it helpful in determining their customers’ concerns and issues. Those passing the exam may use the designation CCM (Certified Concession Manager) or, for suppliers, ACE (Allied Concession Executive). 64 • ShowTime Preview Guide – Fall 2016
