On The Spot
Interviewer: How has your journey been my
man, since you are an Eastern Cape based
deejay?
I
nterviewer: Thank you for taking some
timeout for us, so who is Mpeshnyk and
where is he from?
Mpeshnyk: Thank you for the opportunity. For
those who do not know Mpendulo or Mpesh is
from the small town of Mthatha, in the Eastern
Cape. Born and raised I'm just an ordinary lover
of all kinds of music from birth.
Interviewer: Your take on the state of affairs
when it comes to the Deep House scene in the
Eastern Cape?
Mpeshnyk: The state of deep house in the
Eastern Cape, is strong and has been strong for a
number of years now. I may not have the chance
to travel around the province but I can assure you
that the energy is there all round. Whether there
are a few audiences for it or more. I'm
overwhelmed by the amount of audiences around
our province and it is very much strong hold
here.
Mpeshnyk: I've been to quite a number of venues
mostly in the Gauteng province to start of. And I
must say the journey has been very inspiring.
Started playing at Kospotong in Melville, Social
Bar on 7th Avenue, then moved to reside in
Braamfontein at a restaurant that used to be in
Braamfontein Centre called "Pantsula Bites".
Played with the likes of Mosscode, 4play, Dj
Tumza, ZaiMaya, MLK Da Dj, just to name a few.
Then being invited to play along side Jullian
Gomes, Kid Fonque, Ralf GUM, Rampage Soule,
etc. Then I got to travel to Kuruman, Northern
Cape and met some very inspiring Djs from other
parts of the country that share the same love and
appreciation for house music in general. Also got
the opportunity to meet the likes of Mr. O, ZuluMa-
fia, Sir LSG etc. So in all I've met those that have
been Djing and producing for years before I started
and whilst within my musical journey I've taken so
far.
Interviewer: Any musical projects Mpeshnyk
has been part of and are there any current ones
you are involved in?
Mpeshnyk: At the moment I'm in the process of
putting together my first solo album due to be
released before the end of the year. One of the
singles called "The Priesthood" will be out under
an independent label owned by Dj Stax also from
Mthatha, Eastern Cape. Including other original
material I've done with Kanetiv Xsoul, Masta
Candi, MLK Da Dj and a lot of other local acts.
Plus to add on, a new remix i did for "The EGH
Project" (Italy) is expected to be out soon. Not sure
on the release date but you will obviously be
informed about that soon hopefully.
